Our Founder, Consultant and Lead Trainer
Laura Oughton
Positive Psychology and Behavioural Specialist
Originally from the UK and now based in Perth, Western Australia, Laura is a passionate advocate, educator, and wellness practitioner with over two decades of experience in disability support, inclusive education, and psychosocial care. Her journey began at just 16 as a disability carer, then at 18 working in the medical sector supporting preschool aged children and their families, seeking diagnosis. At age 20 Laura transitioned into specialist education, where she spent over 10 years of her career in a specialist education school in Wales, where she supported students aged 4 to 19—laying the foundation for a lifelong commitment to inclusion, empowerment, and real-world learning, through education.
Laura’s career has spanned care work, disability services, mainstream and specialist education, advocacy, and—perhaps most profoundly—parenting. After relocating to Perth in 2011, she continued her work in diversity and inclusion before taking time to raise her three vibrant children. It was during this chapter that Laura’s perspective deepened, shaped by her lived experience as a mother and carer navigating multiple diagnoses within her family, including Autism, ADHD, hearing loss, and chronic illness.
In her late 30s, Laura herself was diagnosed as an Autistic individual with ADHD (AuDHD), along with several rare autoimmune conditions. This personal journey brought clarity and inspired a vision: to deliver services that truly meet people where they are—engaging with compassion, flexibility, and a commitment to seeing individuals beyond labels or limitations. Her favourite mantra is “no boxes allowed”.
From this, iTHRIVE Wellness was born—a fully mobile, inclusive service offering Allied Health counselling, life coaching, outreach program, education and transitional supports, inclusive of animal-assisted therapy. Laura’s approach; whether as a therapist, advocate or trainer, her approach is always client affirming, client led, holistic, and deeply rooted in lived experience. She believes in scaffolding support around each person’s unique goals, values, and identity.
Outside of work, Laura is a keen runner, swimmer, and triathlete with a love for live music—especially rock. Whether she’s coaching, advocating, or dancing at a gig, her energy is grounded in one simple belief:
“iTHRIVE when YOU thrive—and together, we all thrive.”
